PEP CLUBS
-1-
To many, thoughts of high school days will always be associated with "That Old Gang of Mine." During the past several years several clubs have been organized-some for work, some for pep and some just for fun.
The famous Perkins Family of 1921 had an old white mule, spring wagon, picnics-dressed tacky and had such names as "Samanthy", "Sy", "Mirandy", etc. Ma Perkins was Mable Ridenour. Pa Perkins was Gloyd Rixon. The rest of the family were Abbie Lawton, Merle Maupin, Mary Yoder, Lola Durham, Margaret Nagle, Tommy Way, Dayle Aitken, Pat Durham, Vic Carrier, Mervin Garvin. Here's hoping the family will get together on May 28th.
.About 1924 a group of girls banded themselves together, calling the organization, "The Dirty Seven". These seven were Helen Hoaglin, Helen Gillmore, Mary Gillmore, Ione Aitken, Doris Huntington, Jeanette Crum and Louise Carrier.
In 1926 the Komic Kru was organized. The names were taken from the comic strip. Elberta Ulrey-Toots; Gretchen O'Connor-Dumb Dora; Ruth Bright-Boots; Maurine Berg-Roxie; Cleo Nesbitt-Tillie the Toiler; Edna Miller-Babe; Donna DeVore-Sheba; Dorothy Howard- Flapper Fannie.
In 1927 a pep club of sophomore girls was organized calling them- selves the R. A. T.'s. Members were: Dorothy Henshaw, Natalie Ham- mitt, Sara Fry, Verna Beaver, Laura Roberts, Clo Ellen Smith, Anita Cot- ton, Jean Smith, Mary Bookstore, Pauline Cooper, Ada Towns, Mae Hud- son, Lois Faye Teetzel. They plan to have a reunion at Clo Ellen Smith Ahnert's on Saturday following the 50th Celebration.
"The Bumpers" was another Pep Club organized in 1927. The fol- lowing girls were members: Katherine Shaler, Imogene Gaut, Eloise Seevers, Thelma Harrison, Madelyn Austin, Jean Mock, Nadine Halbeck, Vivian Polk, Roberta Odle, Grayce Winebright and Grace John. In 1930 all of the Senior girls were taken in and a large Pep Club was organized, having the same name, and the girls wore white pleated skirts and blue sweaters. They held pep meetings and decorated goal posts.
Some Freshman girls in 1929 organized the O. D. D.'s. They had many parties and still have get-togethers. Members were June Coen, Velma Correll, Dorothy Carrier, Gwendolyn Kay, Stella Hahn, Mildred Martin, Gayle Cotton, Ruth Shaler, Yvonne Winkler, Melba Broadfoot, Adeline Seely, Lorraine Hohner, Willma Long and Rae John.
Just this year a boy's "J" club has been organized in the high school to promote interest in athletics. Members are those who have earned let- cers in some athletic activity.

GOLDEN MEMORIES
JOHN W. SIDMAN
Who starts on his 40th year as Janitor of the Grade School May 1, 1937 No book of Golden Memories of St. John and its schools would be complete without a page devoted to the man whose face and figure appear on far more of those memory-pages than any other person ever connected with the schools. It is no idle statement that John Sid- man has "graduated" thirty-nine classes. He has played with, protected, lived for, and grad- uated, thirty-nine classes. He is now looking after the kids of kids he used to look after. Mr. Sidman has set at ease the hearts of more moth- ers, refereed more kid games, settled more kid fights and sent more kids home where they be- long than any other man in a dozen counties. As long as Mr. Sidman is on the job (may that be thirty-nine years more, at least) St. John grade school will continue to be about the safest place in the world to send your kids, as well as the best place to study and play.
