CONFESSION OF FAITHI.
1. We believe that there is but one God, the Creator, Preserver and moral Governor of the Universe; a Being of infinite Power, Wisdom, Justice, Goodness and Truth ; The self-existent and immutable Fountain of Goodness.
2. We believe that "all Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof. for correction, for instruction in righteousness ;" and that it is our ultimate rule of doctrinal belief and religious practice.
3. We believe that the scriptures teach that God exists in a manner incomprehensible to us, under a three-fold distinction, as Father, Son and Holy Spirit; and that these three, pos- sessing equal perfections, are one God.
4. We believe that God at first created man in a state of moral rectitude, that he voluntarily disobeyed the law of his Maker, and thereby fell into a state of sin and death; and that in consequence of this apostacy, the hearts of all men are by nature entirely destitute of holiness; and so far as they are capable of moral action, they are in a state of pos- itive disaffection with the law, character and government of God.
1
CONFESSION OF FAITH.
5. We believe that Jesus Christ, by his obedience, sufferings and death, made atonement for sin; that he is the only Redeemer of sinners ; and that all who are saved will be wholly indebted to the grace and mercy of God for their salvation.
6. We believe that God offers salvation freely to all men, on condition of repentance for sin, and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, but that, such is their love of sin and aversion to holiness, none accept without the special grace of God.
7. We believe that at the end of time, the Lord Jesus Christ will descend from Heaven, to raise the dead and judge the World in righteousness ; that probation will then be ended ; that the wicked "shall go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into life eternal."
8. We believe that a church is an association of christians professing faith in Christ and obedience to him, and joined in covenant for christian fellowship and communion in the ordi- nauces of the gospel ; invested with power to exercise govern- ment and disipline according to the Scriptures.
9. We believe that Baptism, as the seal of the covenant, and the Lord's Supper, as commemorative of Christ's death, are the ordinances, divinely appointed, to be observed in the church, 'to the end of the World.
Do you thus believe?
(Hero the rite of Baptism is to be administered.)
COVENANT.
You do now in the presence of God and this witnessing assembly, avouch the Lord Jehovah, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, to be your God, the object of your supreme Love and your portion forever. You cordially acknowledge the Lord Jesus Christ as your only Saviour, and the Holy Spirit as your Sanctifier, Comforter and Guide. You humbly and cheerfully devote yourself to God in the covenant of grace. You consecrate yourself and all you possess to his serving and glory, you promise that through Divine trace, "deming ungodliness and worldly lasts, you will live soberly, rightously and godly in this present world."
You do now cordially join yourself to this church of Christ, engaging to attend on its worship and ordinances, and to sub- mit to its discipline, according to the rules of the gospel; and that you will walk with its members in christian love, watchfulness and purity.
Thus you covenant, promise and engage. (Here the Church will rise.)
We do now as a church of the Lord Jesus Christ, receive you into our communion, and promise to watch over you with christian affection and tenderness, ever treating you in love as a member of the body of Christ. This w. do. haploring of the great Shepherd of Israel that both you and we may have wisdom and grace to be faithful in his covenant. and to glorify Him with our bodies and spirits, which are his. Amen !
