THE PARISH VISITOR
Dear friends one and all-
It has been a wonderful experience, which brought us 17 years of wonderful church I consider a privilege, to have had assoc- iation with all the fine Christian people, - - who have been either members or friends of the church, thru the past fifty years, as Organist.
In 1906-Rev. Howard.A. Morton-came as minister-a young but deeply spiritual man, who was the reason for my joining the Con- gregational Church. His reasons for accep- ting and serving Christ were so simple but so convincing. His pastorate was of about two years or a little more.
After Rev. Morton, came Rev. Haig Adadour- ian-a fine Christian. During his stay of about four years-the gown or robe for the minister was adopted.
9 tFor a short while Rev. Frank Kasson and . Rev. Oliver (both retired) served in the pulpit-until Rev. Newton I. Jones and Mrs. Jones came to occupy the new parsonage, (which is the present one). During Rev. Jones pastorate Norman and I were married and for three years I was absent from the Organ.
Rev. Arnaldo Natino was the next minister and the music took on the revival type and lots of spirit, highly joyous and lots. of pageants with music.
Rev. Thor Partington-the next pastor- brought the Evangelistic music-which is very singable and moving. Again many pag- eants with music.
Rev. Frederick W. Alden (now Dr.) became our pastor. The music and whole church at- mosphere became more worshipful. Many of our present members joined during his five years of service.
Rev. Philip A. Job-next-the choir had many new members and changes took place.
Rev. Robert Divine-from Harvard made many admirers with his excellent delivery-and the music became slow and dignified.
Now a period while Rev. Alexander Mac Caulay-a Scotch Presbyterian-retired from the pulpit but supplying when needed helped us.
Next a number of months-without a minis- ter-Mr. Warren Clark, S.S. Supt .- read the Scriptures, offered prayer and at this time a group of younger folks filled the choir. Sunday School was carried on and some of the faithful members much older stood by.
Rev. Paul Wilkinson's pastorate with . Mrs. Wilkinson's help brought us beautiful music. At this point-the Federation of churches came into existence.
continued
Rev. Scott Siegle and Rev. Kroum Jordan life. I believe my love for the Organ increased if that was possible.
Rev. Norman Farnum's fine service, with his keen ear for organ and choir, kept us on our toes.
Next, a pastorate with Rev. James Rogers followed by Rev. Edwin Carter, retired, who brought peace and good will to our music and church. Now for the present- with Rev. Foster Phillips who inspires one whether playing, singing or working to do his best.
There is so much that comes to mind that would perhaps interest-but this is a long retirement "thank you".
My deep appreciation to all who through the years encouraged me to keep on. To . my husband for his patience when I was so often at rehearsals. To everyone, for the beautiful engraved silver plate, and gift of money, for the gifts from individuals, the beautiful painting from the Senior Choir, the gifts of music box, May basket and song from the Junior Choir. To the Committees who planned and arranged the Retirement Party which was so lovely.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Agnes B. Hopkins
Just say "thank you!"! That was the directive given to me when I asked how best I could express my feelings for a truly wonderful and memorable evening; an evening I will always remember for its warmth, joy and beautiful setting.
To the reception committee, the music committee, the members and friends of the church and to "Auntie" for the privilege of working with her and for sharing a most happy time-a heartfelt and sincere " thank you".
Marjorie R. Schofield
The Music Committee wishes to thank Mrs. Richard I. Mulholland and her committee Mrs. Henry E. Clark, Mrs. Robert E. Dick- son and Mrs. Paul B. Edwards and all those who so generously contributed toward mak- ing the retirement party of Mrs. Norman C. Hopkins and Mrs. Winford L. Schofield so successful.

Congregational. Church of Orleans- -
The Congregational Church building of Orleans which has recently been remodelled was originally built in 1829. It's outside dimensions were 41X68 with posts about 18 feet high and a roof of low pitch, which together with double rows of numerous windows , gave the building an appearance reminding one more of a factory than a church. It was built of the best of stock
and of heavy timbers and all apparently in as good Condition as when first put together. The roof had not been renewed and was perfectly tight and in good condition. Inside it contained but a single room with a gallery on three sides and short narrow entries from the doors. It was remodeled by raising
the pitch of the roof about six feet, diminishing the number of windows and flooring it over on a bed with the gallery floor. The belfry was also raised about 6 feet, and in order to light the auditorium On the upper floor, three dormer windows were placed in the roof on each side . The lower story is divided into a lobby 16x40 feet, a vestry 32×40

a parlor 16x26, a kitchen 14×16. The second floor consists of a lobby 16×40 and an auditorium 40×50. This room is neatly freacord and is finished to the peak of the roof, which is supported by exposed trusses of hand pine. It is considered by all who have seen it a handsome and comfortable room, well adapted to the uses for which it is intended . It has seating capacity for 300, but can comfortably accommodate 400 in case of necessity. The contract for carpenter work plastering , painting and furnishing all the required material was taken by Hamer + Jenkins, for the sum of 3,575.00. The building committe was extremely fortunate in securing puch reliable + faithful contractors. Everything was done in a satisfactory + workman-like manner according to the spirit of the contract. The work was done by Mer. Paine of Harwich and the painting by Benjamin Buck, Harwich . The frescoing was subsequently contracted for by Mu. Buck which was tastefully + well done and has greatly improved the appearance of the building. The entire expense

for building & furnishing has been $4 , 327. 21 to which should be added 60 paid for plans of building three years ago, to S. N. Small, architect. The total receipts are $4,397.50, leaving a balance of 70.29 in the treasury. Subscriptions amounting to 220. are pledged to be paid in annual installments for four years , the greater part of which will be paid and can be used for improvements, which from a sense of economy, the committe did not include in their contract. The sum pledged when the vote was taken to remodel the church was less than $ 2000 . The society is not a wealthy one and the work was undertaken with the prospect of incurring a large debt. From friends who were chiefly natives and former
residents of the town, there was received the sum of $ 1042. The sum of $351.71 was raised mostly from friends abroad by letters soliciting small sums. It is the help obtained from these sources that has placed the society in its prosperous financial condition."
