NORTH ADAMS is situated in the northern part of Berkshire, the western county of Massachusetts, in latitude 42 deg. 40 min. N. and longitude 3 deg. 53 min. E. It is of perfectly rect- angular form, 5 miles east and west and 312 miles north and south. Its meridian lines run due north and south, and its par- allels of latitude east and west. It is bounded north by Clarks- burg, east by Florida and Savoy, south by Adams and west by Williamstown. Adams was incorporated as a township October 15, 1778. On April 15, 1878, the town was divided into two equal parts, the new line between them running east and west. Incorporated as a city in 1895.

The Drury School District.
Includes all pupils of Miner school district above sev- enth grade; all Veazie above sixth grade. It includes all pupils living on both sides of Main street from Brown street to 195 East Main street, except the north side of Main from Holden street to Eagle street; all pupils in the territory bounded by Pleasant street to 47 East Quincy, 47 East Quincy to 195 East Main street, then to Pleasant street. It includes all pupils in the territory bounded by Marshall street to Main, Main to Holden, Holden to River street; all pupils north of that section of River street be- tween Eagle and Brooklyn streets, and above 135 Eagle to Clarksburg line excepting Liberty street.

Buildings.
The buildings in exterior are of yellow brick and white marble, with metal roofs. The school building, in Italian style, is 152 feet long, 84 feet deep, and three stories and basement in height.
In the basement are the boiler, engine, fuel, heating and janitor's rooms, a lunch room; gymnasium and bath rooms, a room for manual training, and a room for photography; in the first story, two reception rooms, cloak, coat and toilet rooms, and four natural science laboratories; in the second story, the as- sembly hall, office, libraries and class rooms for the languages and mathematics; in the third story, the physicial and chemical laboratories, the drawing and art rooms, and the principal's class room ; and in the attic is ample space for storage.
The interior is finished in oak throughout, and provided with modern improvements and facilities. Cabinets, drawers, closets, specially adapted to the needs of the school, are being provided in1 all the roomis.
Requirements for Admission.
Candidates for admission to any one of the normal schools must have attained the age of seventeen years complete, if young men, and sixteen years if young women, and must be free from any disease or infirmnity which would unfit them for the office of teacher. They must, I, present certificates of good moral stand- ing ; 2, give evidence of good intellectual capacity (records of their scholarship standing in the high schools are desired) ; and 3, be graduates of high schools whose courses of study have been approved by the board of education; or 4, they must have re- ceived, to the satisfaction of the principal and the board of visitors of the school, the equivalent of a good high school education. Successful experience in teaching is allowed to be taken into account in the determination of equivalents in the entrance ex- aminations.
