The Selectmen herewith present their annual report of the expenditures of the town, pursuant to the requirements of the By-Laws, for which orders have been drawn on the Town Treas- urer for the year ending Jan. 31st, 1883. We have endeavored to arrange the accounts with sufficient detail to enable every citizen to examine and readily determine who has received the money of the town, and for what purpose. Some of the ap-

propriations exceed, while most of the others fall short of the amount granted. The repairs of highways exceed the amount granted, but was caused by the sums spent on the retaining walls on Washington Street and Railroad Avenue, and railing on Nahatan Street. Cross Street is not finished, but there was money sufficient appropriated to finish it last year. The condi- tion of our public roads, it is believed, will compare favorably with roads in our vicinity, yet there is room for still further improvement ; we have, therefore, asked for five hundred dol- lars more for highways than last year.
