The Selectmen herewith present their annual report of the expenditures of the town, pursuant to the requirements of the By-Laws, for which orders have been drawn on the Town Treas- urer for the year ending Jan. 31st, 1884.

This year all claims against the town have been paid in full to January 31st. The extension of Railroad Avenue and How- ard Street cost a trifle above the appropriation. Day Street was in access of the appropriation, but was done at the lowest bid. The reservoir on Foundry Street is finished, but cost more than the appropriation, as it had to be blasted out of a solid rock.

29

It is nineteen feet deep by seventeen feet in diameter, and will be lasting and self-filling, and is a good investment for the town.

Nothing was done in regard to a watering-place as there was objection made to taking water from a pipe where we sup- posed we could get it when we asked for the appropriation.

We would recommend that a large reservoir be built near Cottage and Nichols Streets, a large pipe to be laid from it to Washington Street, where it could be used for fire and other purposes.
