ANNUAL REPORT OF THE
SCHOOL COMMITTEE
OF THE
TOWN OF ATTLEBORO,
FOR THE YEAR ENDING MARCH, 1875.
REPORT.
Since the recent change from April to March of the time of hold- ing the annual town meeting there has been more or less incomplete- ness in some of the yearly returns from our schools. It is the same this year. The cause is not far to seek. The winter term of some of the schools, especially the larger ones, partly from habit and partly on account of circumstances which seemed to be beyond control, is prolonged into March. The committee's report, never- theless, must be prepared, printed and distributed as soon as the middle of that month. As a consequence we can give accurate information only up to the time when the report is prepared, and must guess at the returns for the remaining two, or three, or four weeks. This year, full returns are given up to March 1, and with these we have incorporated the probabilities for the schools which were still in session at that date. Although we have been com- pelled to do our work hastily, and at a disadvantage, we believe that in the accuracy of its returns the report this year is quite equal to the best which has yet been presented to the town. Great pains have been taken to make it so.
