In 1767, the 2d regiment had a train of artillery at- tatched, which was raised in Newburyport.
In 1765, Col. Samuel Ropes, commanded the 3d regi- ment, composed then of companies from Topsfield, Row- ley and neighboring towns.
In 1771, Col. Richard Saltonstall of Haverhill was com- mander of the 4th regiment, and that year finds Col. Wil- liam Brown in command of the 1st regiment, with three additional companies, one each from Beverly, Danvers and Lynn.
Below follow the list of officers in the 1st Essex regi- ment as far as shown on the Rolls preserved in the office of the Secretary of State, from 1765 to 1771.
