2
IN presenting to his fellow citizens the third number of this little Annual, the subscriber would return his thanks for the liberal and extended patronage bestowed on the undertaking, which has enabled him to bring out the present number (we think) in a much improved style, with new and beautiful type, from the press of Mr. John M. Wood.
This list has been prepared with great care, by person- al application at every house and place of business in the three villages, and is believed to be as correct as such a list can be made.
The advertising department will be found by no means the least valuable portion of the volume. By reference to the alphabetical index, it will be seen that many of the principal business establishments of the villages are here represented, and the citizen or stranger may find in it directions where to obtain almost every variety of work or merchandize that can be called for.
On the whole, it is believed that the citizens of Spring- field, and all doing business here, will find in this little volume such a collection of information in relation, as well to the people of the place as to their employments and public institutions, as will render it an almost indis- pensable book of reference in the family, work-shop and store.
