Book and Job Printing fouse.
GEORGE W. WILSON,
Formerly of S N. Dickinson and Co's extensive Printing Establishment, Boston, and for the last few years Fore- man for H. S. Taylor of this Town.
Has the pleasure of announcing to his friends and the business public, that he has completed arrangements by which he has become the proprietor of the well known Book and Job Printing Office, for many years owned and occupied by J. M. Wood, in connection with the Messrs G. and C. Merriam, centrally situated on the corner of Main and State streets, over Merriam, Chapin and Co's Bookstore, Springfield, Mass., and that he is at this date actively employed in remodeling and im- proving the same.
His plans embrace extensive exchanges, and additions of the most Modern and Useful materials, and are of such a nature as will, when completed, enable him to execute with unsurpassed beauty, neatness, and accura- cy, every possible variety of Typographic and Zelo- graphic Printing ever demanded by any class of the business public, or which correct and classic taste may require in the more ornamental branches.
His long and extensive experience in City and Coun- try, on the almost endless variety of Forms and Blanks used by the different business interests of community, enables him to say with confidence that he can suit even the fastidious of any class, and at prices as low as can be afforded by ANY "REGULAR " AND COMPETENT CITY PRINTER.
He will pay particular attention to Card, Certificate, Check, and General Blank and Pamphlet Printing, for which his facilities are unsurpassed. On his superior
and compact Card Press, a pack of Address Cards can be beautifully printed in five minutes.
His fine Gold and Silver Printing is executed with a sizing of his own manufacture, the result of years of extensive experiment, and is warranted to work better, and to be in every respect superior to any that can be obtained in the market. Gold and silver bronze used with this sizing is warranted so perfectly adhesive that the paper may all be rubbed off around the letter with- out affecting it in the least, and as there is an entire absence of all coloring matter in it, the most delicate tints will remain for years unchanged.
His friends and the Public are respectfully invited to bestow upon him a share of their patronage.
Springfield, Dec. 1, 1848.
N. B. The Patrons of the Directory are authorized to expect many improvements in the next number.
MANUFACTURER OF HARNESSES AND TRUNKS, A&S. Near Conn. River Bridge, CHICOPEE, MASS.
C V. LANE,
Cabot St., near Exchange st., Bookseller and Stationer, CABOTVILLE, MASS. Keeps constantly for sale on favorable terms, SCHOOL BOOKS, MISCELLANEOUS BOOKS, BLANK BOOKS AND STATIONERY, &c.
TO THE PUBLIC.
The generous patronage and encouragement bestow- ed upon our past efforts to give the public an annual DIRECTORY accommodated to the wants and circum- stances of every class of citizens, stimulates the desire to offer our sixth Number as equally acceptable.
We are compelled, however, in this No to omit some things which are found in our last. This is unavoidable unless we oblige the public at a dead loss to ourselves ; which we presume a generous public will never de- mand. To increase the size of the volume, in propor- tion to the increase of population and business, would compel us to incur such additional expen-es, as would oblige us to sacrifice, or demand an additional nine- pence. We therefore conclude to perfect whatever re- lates to men and business, abridging in matters not so essential ; and hold on to our former price, for the pres- ent year. Our next Number however will contain altera- tions and improvements in advance of any of its prede- cessors.
1. It will be issued on the 1st of May, so as to meet past defects arising from changes of families on the 1st of April ; so that the residence of every family may be readily found by referring to the Directory.
2. We shall enlarge by adding such matter and busı- ness items as seem to be demanded ; hoping that an in- crease of patronage, arising from an increase of popula- tion, will enable us to offer it without any additional ex- pense to our patrons.
3. We shall present our friends with a new and im- proved Map of Springfield.
With due acknowledgments for past favors, and an humble desire to please and oblige the Public, in an obliging way to ourselves; we again subscribe ourselves your accommodating friend,
V. W. SKIFF.
