Over $150,000,000 are invested in the Malt and Brewing business in the United States.
SAFE INVESTMENT. NEW ENGLAND MALT CO.,
209 WASHINGTON STREET,
GROUND FLOOR ROGERS BUILDING, OPP. STATE STREET, BOSTON.
One of our machines can be scen at No. 209 WASHINGTON ST., Room A. Full size machine costing $1000 will make as much Malt by our new process, and do it better than a Malt House costing $20, 000. This system, now in successful operation, has received the first premium and a gold medal. About 9,000,000 bushels of Malt are made annually in the New England States. This Company nets 15 cents per bushel, this means over 200 per cent profit. Figure for yourself and see what dividend you will receive by buying the stock now, at this low minimum pricc. This is a practical home business; an enterprise in which thorough business men well known in our community, arc interested. This Co. was incorporated and organ- ized in strict accordance with the requirements of law. This stock has advanced from $5 to $10, thence from $10 to $15, and is now selling at $15, but will undoubtedly advance to $20 soon. We feel confident it will soon be at par, $100; about 250 stockholders, and the Company only a few months old; 535 shares sold in a week. This is more rapid progress than was made in the Telephone stock, which at one time sold at $5 and then went as high as $1500 per share, and we see no reason why this stock should not do as well. The time to buy is when the stock is low. This stock is full paid and non-assessable. A golden opportunity for business men to form Companies similar to this in other states.
We solicit a thorough investigation of the valne and utility of the machine, and of the affairs and pros- pects of the Company. Our new machine for the manufacture of Malt, is simple and effective, there being a difference of one-half in time, and more than one-half in the expense in favor of our machine over the old method now in use, dispensing with costly buildings, large areas, and skilled workmen. The process of germinating and drying the Malt, is performed in our machine by automatic means, thus dispensing with hand labor which is expensive and unsatisfactory. It will also be observed that our method of heat- ing is comparatively inexpensive the exhaust or waste steam being used for this purpose and the chambers are maintained at any desired temperature, regulated by thermometers, a result never before attained in any other Malting process. We construct these machines with a capacity varying from 10 to 1000 bushels or morc.
See what the rural press says about the stock of the New England Malt Company; look at the New England Trader, Roxbury Advocate, Brockton Gazette, Cambridge Tribune and other papers. People can buy from one to one hundred shares at $15 per share. by sending their moncy to the Company or any Bank in Boston, and get their certificate of $100 shares, at $15 per share for the present, or later at the current price of the stock.
Call and examine Machine or send for Malt Book, and price list of machines and terms &c., &c., to Co.'s office,
Room A., 209 Washington St., Boston. J. W. FREE, Pres.

W. A. GREENOUGH & CO., COMPILERS AND PUBLISHERS OF DIRECTORIES AND MAPS, No. 31 Milk Street, BOSTON, MASS. 1 ELMER LITTLEFIELD. JAMES E. HUNTRESS.
INTRODUCTORY.
Again we present our patrons and the public with a new edition of the CAMBRIDGE DIRECTORY, No. 34 of the regular series, for their use and ap- proval. We have spared no trouble or expense in the canvass and compil- ation of this issue of the work to make it in all respects as correct and re- liable as is possible for a work of this kind.
The difficulty of compiling a city directory is seldom understood, and is not easily explained, dependent as we are upon local patronage, it is an ab- solute necessity that we have the support of the entire business community, who derive the largest portion of the benefit of such a work.
A city directory contains a great amount of information concerning the public, religious, charitable, and private institutions of the city, whichi make it a valuable present record as well of an historical authority.
Every person should have at their business place or residence, or botlı, a directory of the city from time to time as published, not only as a daily con- venience, but as a valuable record of local history.
Orders for our directories come to us from distant parts of this and foreign countries, showing that their circulation is not limited to the cities they repre- sent.
Persons consulting the directory are reminded of the importance of know- ing the precise spelling of a name before looking for it, as names pronounced the same are often spelled quite differently, and appear on different pages.
A full directory of Harvard College, Professors and Students will be found on page 430
For the support we receive from the business men of Cambridge, as well as the citizens who do business in Boston, we are under many obligations ; also to the officers of the various societies and institutions for information furnished us, we present our thanks.
The following shows the increase in names over last year :
