PREFACE.
Again we wish a happy new year and present to the people of CAMBRIDGE the forty-seventh edition of the city directory for 1898. It has been our aim to provide a directory creditable to the city here represented and as throughly useful and trustworthy as could be desired. The live business men realize the value of our pages for advertising purposes, that no such permanency can be secured in ephemeral publications as is offered in a volume of such wide and general consultation as a city directory. Every business man has need of the di- rectory, and strangers gain a deal of information from a well compiled volume of this kind. A well ordered, well printed and complete directory reflects credit upon the community it represents, and that is what the publishers mean to furnish. The business men and general public can help us to fulfill this purpose and benefit themselves by a generous patronage.
The directory this year being printed before Jan. 1st, 1898, we have been obliged to omit some of the officers of the Miscellaneous Societies, they not electing in season for pub- lication.
