INTRODUCTORY.
The time has again come for issuing a new edition of the CAMBRIDGE CITY DIRECTORY, and, as usual, we have used all our resources, and bent all our energies, to the one object of keeping up the reputation of this Directory as a model book in every respect.
We have endeavored to present a trustworthy record of the inhabitants, business firms, public officers, institu- tions, and societies of the city, and we feel confident we have succeeded, in so doing, to the satisfaction of our patrons and the public generally.
We have been engaged in compiling and publishing Directories for nearly twenty years, and our experience during that time has enabled us to so systematize and extend our business, that, from a comparatively small be- ginning, we now publish more Directories than any firm in this country. We keep constantly employed a large corps of canvassers, compilers, proof-readers, printers, and binders, and the utmost care is taken in each depart- ment to avoid errors, and to present our works in an ac- ceptable manner to our patrons.
.
It is our intention, another year, to have a new and enlarged map of Cambridge engraved especially for in- sertion in the Directory.
Having lately removed our office from 242 Washing- ton street to more commodious quarters in the granite building, No. 22 School street, we shall be pleased to see all of our patrons and friends who may wish to refer to our Directories, complete files of which are always kept upon our shelves.
Many thanks are due to the business men of Cam- bridge and Boston who have so willingly aided us in our efforts this year, and hoping we may merit a continuance of the same in the future, we remain,
Very respectfully, GREENOUGH & CO., Editors and Publishers.
