INTRODUCTORY.

The twenty-eighth number of the CAMBRIDGE CITY DIRECTORY is presented to the public in a condensed, and we trust more con- venient form than heretofore. Owing to the increase in size each year, and the corresponding increase in the expense of publishing, we have adopted the style used in printing directories of all large cities, viz .: putting the names in two columns and in smaller type. The references over each page will also be found servicea- ble in helping to find the names, while the book being smaller will therefore be easier to handle.

Our New Map has also been corrected and revised for insertion this year, and can be found on sale in covers, for pocket use, at the book stores.

Americans visiting London, England, will find our directories on file at Messrs. Henry F. Gillig & Co.'s, 449 Strand, Charing Cross.

We renew our thanks to the business men, who, notwithstand- ing the dull times, have so generously patronized the directory ; and we feel confident that with the resumption of specie pay- ments, the year 1879 will bring about a revival of business that will stimulate the many manufacturing interests of Cambridge, and bring about that prosperity which was so notably observable in our city before the panic.
