INTRODUCTORY.
THE CAMBRIDGE DIRECTORY for 1882 has been prepared with the greatest care, as usual, and we trust that all who may have occasion to refer to it will find it so nearly perfect, that our inten- tion to have it a model directory, shall be fulfilled.
Each year adds to the expense and labor of publishing, and the steady increase of names from year to year shows that not only is our work well and faithfully done, but that our city is rapidly growing in population and wealth. When the time shall come for rapid transit between Cambridge and Boston, and the project- ed bridge built to connect us with the Back Bay district, our growth will be more rapid still, and the city even more prosper- ous than now.
For the support we receive from the business men of Cambridge, as well as the citizens who do business in Boston, we are under many obligations ; also to the officers of the various societies and institutions for information furnished us, we present our thanks.
The following shows the increase in names over last year :
Names in Directory, 1881, 19,786 66 66 1882, 20,450
Increase, 664
We remain, very respectfully,
W. A. GREENOUGH & CO.,
BOSTON, Jan. 1, 1882.
