CHURCH ORDER.
MEMBERSHIP.
1. The deacons of the church, and the annual church committee assist the pastor in examining those who apply for admission to the church .- (Ch. Rec., Vol. II., p. 6.)
2. Those approved by the examining committee are pro- pounded two weeks, or in case of necessity, one week previous to their admission, and by a rising vote of the church, are ad- mitted, on making public profession of their faith, and recog- nising their covenant obligations. Admissions ordinarily take place on the day of communion .- (Ch. Rec., Vol. I., p. 170.)
3. Those who bring letters of recommendation from other churches, submit their letters to the examining committee. If approved by the committee, these letters are publicly read, and themselves admitted, by vote of the church, on assenting to its form of covenant .- ( Ch. Rec., Vol. I., p. 40.)
4. Members of churches in other towns, residing perma- nently amongst us, or wishing to commune with this church for more than one year, are requested to transfer their church relation to us, unless there be special reasons for delay .- (Ch. Rec., Vol. 1., p. 39.)
5. It is recommended to members of this church, who may leave town for a limited period, to take a letter of introduction to some evangelical church, with which they may commune ; it being understood, however, that such a letter must be re- newed every year. It is also recommended, that members re-

siding permanently out of town, remove their church relation. Any member receiving a letter of dismission and recommen- dation to some sister church, must present it within 6 months, or have it renewed. Notice is expected from such a church, whenever a member recommended is received .- (Ch. Rec., Vol. II., p. 7.)
ARTICLES OF FAITH.
1. The church voted, Nov. 6, 1765, " that we require of all persons, whom we receive into covenant and communion with us, all those qualifications which are declared in the Cambridge Platform of Church Government, to be necessary for church members; as faith in Jesus Christ, repentance for sin, and holiness. And also, that they believe in the Assem- bly's Catechism."-(Ch. Rec. Vol. I., p. 14.)
2. In 1798, March 20, the church adopted the Confession of Faith, which has remained unaltered to this day .- Ch. Rec., Vol. I., p. 27.)
DISCIPLINE.
1. In 1804, June 4, the church voted, "to proceed with disorderly professors agreeably to the directions in the 18th chapter of Matthew's Gospel."-(Ch. Rec., Vol. I., p. 30.)
2. At the same time, it was voted, "that a committee be chosen annually, to inquire into any deficiences, disorders, or difficulties, which may at any time arise in the church, and to take suitable measures to settle and remove them." -- (Ch. Rec., Vol. I., p. 30.)

Rev. 2:10, 17, 26-28. 21:4, 6, 24, 27. 22:11, 11, 15.
Do you profess thus to believe ?
[ Those who have not been baptized, here receive the ordinance of baptism.]
You will now enter into a solemn Covenant with God, and with this Church.
THE COVENANT.
You do now, humbly and penitently, asking the for- giveness of all your sins, through the blood of the Great Redeemer, give up yourself (yourselves) to God, in an everlasting covenant, in our Lord Jesus Christ. And as in the presence of God, angels and men, you do solemnly promise, that by the assistance of the Divine Spirit, you will forsake the vanities of this present evil world, and approve yourself (your- selves) as a true disciple (disciples) in all good con- duet toward God, and toward man. And you likewise promise, so long as God shall continue you among us, to walk in communion with the Church of Christ in this place ; as opportunity shall offer, in love to watch over professing christians among us; to submit to the power and discipline of Christ in his church, and duly to attend the seals, censures, or whatever ordinance Christ has commanded to be observed by His people, so far as the Lord, by his Word and Spirit, has or shall reveal to you to be your duty ; adorning the doctrine of God our Savior in all things, and avoiding the ap- pearance of evil. And by daily prayer to God, in the name of Christ, you will endeavor to seek for grace to enable you to keep this covenant.
Do you thus covenant and promise ?
13
THE COVENANT.
In consequence of this promise, and these covenant engagements on your part, we, the members of this church (here the members of the church rise) affection- ately receive you to our communion. We welcome you to this fellowship with us, in the blessings of the Gospel; and on our part engage to watch over you, and seek your edification, so long as you shall continue with us. And hereafter you can never withdraw from the watch and communion of saints, without a breach of covenant.
And now, beloved in the Lord, let it be impressed upon your mind, (minds) that you have entered into solemn obligations, from which you can never escape. Wherever you go, these vows will be upon you. They will follow you to the bar of God, and will abide upon you to eternity. You have unalterably pledged yourself, (yourselves) and hereafter you must be the servant (servants) of God. Hereafter the eyes of the world will be upon you; and as you demean yourself, (your- selves) so religion will be honored or dishonored. If you walk worthily of your profession, you will be a credit and a comfort to us; but if it be otherwise, you will be an occasion of grief and reproach. But, belov- ed, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.
May the Lord guide and preserve you till death, and at last receive you and us to that blessed world, where our love and joy shall be forever perfect. Amen.

EXPLANATIONS.
In the following Catalogue, the names of married ladies, whose husbands are members of the church, are printed directly after the names of their husbands, with ( Mrs.) annexed.
( Wid.) annexed to the name of a lady, denotes that she is a widow.
( W.) stands for wife.
( L.) following the date of admission, indicates that the individual joined by letter.
IGA blank column has been reserved on the right of each page, for noticing dismissions, deaths, &c. A few blank leaves also are found at the end, for re- ceiving the names of those who may be admitted hereafter. Every church-member is requested to keep a record both of admissions and dismissions, that he may always know both the number and the names of those with whom he has entered into solemn covenant engagements. It is recommended to remember indi- vidual members of the church in special, earnest, and importunate prayer, on the annual return of the date of their admission. Bear in mind the example of Paul, and imitate it; remembering how he says in his letter to Philemon, (v. 4.) " I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers."
