NOTE :- In examining the annual report of this year, it should be remembered, that, at our last March meeting, it was voted that future Annual Meetings be held on the third Mon- day in March, and that the Annual Report be made up to March 1., as many bills, especially School bills, cannot be re- ported in full until about that time. We would, therefore, call your attention to the fact that we have paid the expenses of thirteen months with an appropriation for only twelve. As the month of March occurs twice, it may not be out of place for us to state that we generally draw more orders in March than in any other month of the year.

Your attention is also called to the present Liabilities or In- debtedness of the Town, as this is, to many, the most interesting part of the report. It may, at first, be surprising to you that the indebtedness is not less than last year. We account for and explain this in this way : for Rail-Road Street we have paid five hundred and forty-one dollars and eighty-four cents, ($541.84) and for out-standing bills of and previous to 1878,- as shown by Recapitulation, on pages ten and eleven, to which attention is called,-one thousand nine hundred and forty-five dollars and twenty-two cents, ($1,945.22). These two items, in connection with the bills of the thirteenth month, amount to about three thousand eight hundred dollars, ($3,800.00), for which there was no appropriation made.

Trusting that the above explanation will be sufficient, we re- spectfully submit our report.

A. F. JONES, Selectmen ALBERT BUTLER, of

JESSE CHASE, Douglas.
