WARRANT FOR TOWN MEETING.


WORCESTER, SS.


To either the Constables of the Town of Douglas, in the County of Worcester, Greeting :


In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts,


You are directed to notify the Inhabitants of the Town of Doug- las, qualified to vote in elections and in Town affairs, to meet in the Town Hall, in said Douglas, on Monday, the nine- teenth day of March, inst., at ten o'clock, in the forenoon ; then and there to act on the following articles :


ART. 1. To choose a Moderator to preside at said meeting.


ART. 2. To choose all necessary Town officers for the en- suing year, including an Agent and three Appraisers on the Devise of Moses Wallis, to the inhabitants of Douglas ; three School Committee for three years ; two Trustees of the Public Library, for three years each, and one for two years to fill a vacancy.


ART. 3. To hear the reports of the several Town Officers, and act thereon.


ART. 4. To raise by tax, and appropriate, such sums of money as may be necessary for the support of the Poor, of Schools, for paying the several school districts for their prop- erty taken by the town, for repairing school houses. building and repairing of Highways and Bridges, and for the payment of debts and contingent expenses for the ensuing year.


ART. 5. To determine the manner of repiring Highways and Bridges the ensuing year.


ART. 6. To see if the Town will vote to instruct the Col- lector of taxes, for 1883, to collect interest on all taxes not paid at a specified time, and to fix said time and rate of interest;

also to see if the Town will vote to allow interest on all taxes paid before said time, and fix the rate thereof.


ART. 7. To see if the Town will give to the Collector of taxes the same authority that a Town Treasurer has when Col- lector.


ART. 8. To determine the time when the poll and other taxes shall be collected.


ART. 9. To act upon the list of Jurors, reported by the Selectmen.


ART. 10. To see if the Town will authorize its Treasurer to borrow such sums of money as may be necessary for the year ensuing.


ART. 11. To see what use the town will make of the Dog fund, so called, the ensuing year.


ART. 12. Shall licenses be granted for the sale of intoxicat- ing liquors, in this town ?


ART. 13. To see if the Town will, by its vote or otherwise, ask the Legislature to extend to women who are citizens the right to hold Town offices and to vote in town affairs on the same terms as male citizens.


ART. 14. To see if the Town will vote an appropriation of one hundred dollars to the Grand Army Post, 137, for Mem- orial day purposes for the current year.


ART. 15. To hear the report of any outstanding committee and act thereon.


ART. 16. To see what action the Town will take in regard to a notice served on the Selectmen, by Byron A. Stockwell.


ART. 17. To see what compensation the Town will vote to allow James Peters, for injuries received on highway in his dis- trict.


ART. 18. To see if the Town will make a special appropria- tion for repairing the Depot road.


ART. 19. To see if the Town will vote to have three Road Commissioners to repair the Highways the ensuing year, or make any change in the manner of repairing the same.


ART. 20. To see of what number the acting superintending school committee shall consist the current year.


ART. 21. To see what compensation the Superintending school committee shall receive, including the enumeration of scholars the coming year.


ART. 22. To see if the Town will authorize its Treasurer to bond the Town debt.

ART. 23. To see if the Town will vote to buy 500 feet of hose for the Fire Engine.


ART. 24. To see if the Town will vote to pay the members of the Fire Company the sum of three dollars per year for their services, commencing April 1, 1883, and the said year to end April 1, 1884, and no member to draw the above sum until he has served his full year, and at the end of said year, all fines due the said Company shall be deducted from said three dol- lars, the said three dollars to be drawn on the order of the Foreman of the company.


ART. 25. To see what action the Town will take in regard to an action brought against the town by A. F. Brown, in favor of Michael Roberts.


ART. 26. To. see if the Town will vote to recind the vote passed at the Annual March meeting, 1882, under Article 39 of the warrant of said meeting, whereby the town voted "That the incoming Town Agent be instructed to collect the sum of Fifty dollars from the Superintendent of Schools for the past year, if it can be done without cost," also to see if the town will vote to expunge said article from the Town Record.


And you are directed to serve this Warrant by posting up at- tested copies thereof, at the Post Office in East Douglas, at the Meeting House, at Douglas Center, and at the Tavern House of William Jepherson, so called, in South Douglas, ten days, at least, before the time for holding said meeting. Hereof fail not, and make due return of this Warrant with your doings thereon, to the Town Clerk, at the time and place of meeting aforesaid.
