WARRANT FOR TOWN MEETING.


WORCESTER, SS.


To either of the Constables of the Town of Douglas, in the County of Worcester,


Greeting :


In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts,


You are directed to notify the Inhabitants of the Town of Doug- las, qualified to vote in elections and in town affairs, to meet in the Town Hall, in said Douglas, on Monday, the twenty- first day of March, current, at ten o'clock, in the forenoon, then and there to act on the following articles :


ART. 1. To choose a Moderator to preside at said meeting.


ART. 2. To choose all necessary Town Officers for the en- suing year, including an Agent and three Appraisers on the De. vise of Moses Wallis to the Inhabitants of Douglas ; three School Committee for three years each, and one for one year ; two Trustees of the Public Library, for three years each ; and one Road Commissioner for three years.


ART. 3. To hear the reports of the several Town Officers and act thereon.


ART. 4. To raise by tax and appropriate such sums of money as may be necessary for the Support of Poor, of Schools, for repairing School Houses, Highways and Bridges, for payment of Debts and Contingent expenses for the ensuing year.


ART. 5. To determine the manner of repairing the Highways, and Townways and Bridges the ensuing year.


ART. 6. To see if the Town will vote to instruct the Collec- tor of Taxes for 1887, to collect interest on all taxes not paid at a specified time, to fix said time and rate of interest.

ART. 7. To see if the Town will give the Collector of Taxes the same authority that a Town Treasurer has when Collector.


ART. 8. To determine the time when Poll and other Taxes shall be collected.


ART. 9. To act on the list of Jurors reported by the Se- lectmen.


ART. 10. To see if the Town will authorize its Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to hire money in anticipa- tion of taxes of the next ensuing year, and to issue notes of the Town therefor, and that the debts incurred under the authority of this vote are hereby made payable from said taxes.


ART. 11. To see what use the Town will make of the Dog Fund, (so called), for the ensuing year.


ART. 12. Shall licenses be granted for the sale of intoxicat- ing liquors, in this town, the ensuing year.


ART. 13. To hear the report of any outstanding committee, and act thereon.


ART. 14. To see what number the acting Superintending Committee of Schools shall consist, and to see what compensa- tion they shall receive.


ART. 15. To see if the Town will vote to rescind the vote passed at the Annual March meeting of 1883, under the article 19 of the Warrant of said meeting, whereby the Town voted to accept the provisions of the Statutes, and that we repair the Highways, Townways and Bridges the ensuing year by choosing three Road Commissioners.


ART. 16. To see if the Town will vote to pay the members of the Fire Company the sum of eight dollars, each, for their services the ensuing year ; no member to receive said sum until he has served his full year, ending April 1, 1888, and all fines due said Company be deducted from said amount ; the above named sum to be drawn on the order of the Foreman of said Company.


ART. 17. To see if the Town will authorize some one to sell and convey the Orison Hewitt place, willed to the Town for the benefit of the Town Library.


ART. 18. To see if the Town will authorize the Collector of Taxes to proceed to collect, after Jan. 1, 1888, all taxes remain- ing unpaid at that time.


ART. 19 To see if the Town will appropriate, and raise by tax.

sufficient sums of money to buy a Fire Proof Safe for the use of Town officers.


ART. 20. To see if the Town will appropriate the sum of $150.00 to Samuel Sibley Post, G. A. R., for charitable pur- poses, under provisions of Chap. 189, Sec. 1, of the Acts and Resolves of the year 1885.


And you are directed to serve this Warrant by posting up at- tested copies thereof, at the Post Office in East Douglas, at the Meeting House in Douglas Centre, and at the Tavern House of William Jepherson, so called, in South Douglas, ten days, at least, before the time for holding said meeting. Hereof fail not, and make due return of this Warrant, with your doings thereon, to the Town Clerk, at the time and place of meeting aforesaid.

ROAD COMMISSIONERS.


During the past year the Commissioners have built six large bridges, five of which have been built of Chestnut, and one at Gilboa of South Carolina Yellow Pine ; also have covered sev- eral others.


On Gilboa bridge the cost of labor, spikes, iron and breaking stone, $112 78

1 Bridge above Jesse Sweet ; 1 bridge at J. T. Wallis ; 1 bridge at Gouldville ; 2 bridges at Tassletop ; 1 bridge re-covered at Lovett Mill ; 1 new bridge at Albert Whipple's.


Have paid Mr. Rixford for 4 horses, and one man to work Road machine, $10.00 per day.
