MERRIMAC TOWN REPORT
REPORT OF THE CEMETERY COMMISSION
We hereby submit the report of the department for . the year 1947.
This year as in other recent years we have had trouble in keeping the cemeteries in good condition because of the lack of funds to pay enough reliable help to do the necessary work. We are obliged to pay for the care of about one hundred twenty-five private lots out of our ap- propriation and the money received from individuals for this care goes into the Town. The Town also collects all grave digging money and the expense of this work also is deducted from our appropriation.
The roads in Locust Grove cemetery have had very little care in recent years and three of the roads up the hill are in very poor condition so we advise at least three or four hundred dollars of our appropriation this year be used for the roads.
Therefore we are asking for an appropriation of twenty-five hundred dollars which we hope will keep the cemeteries in the proper condition this year.
Respectfully submitted,

REPORT OF THE MERRIMAC BOARD OF PUBLIC WELFARE
To the Citizens of the Town of Merrimac :
The members elected to the Board of Public Wel- fare organized as follows:
Hazen M. Emery Chairman
Ellen M. Wallace Clerk
Harriett F. Bigelow Other Member
During the past year the board has had an increase in the number of new applications, most of these were occasoned by illness of the head of the household, which condition decreased the earnings of the families. We feel that perhaps we may be able to carry on this type of relief with the same appropriation that we had last year. namely $5,000.00.
The Aid to Dependent Children expenses were sufficient to carry on this program and in view of the fact that we expect a few new cases we feel that we also must ask for the same amount, $5,000.00, for the coming year.
We wish to thank the Federal, State and local depart- ments for their help during the past year.
Respectfully submitted,
HAZEN M. EMERY, HARRIETT F. BIGELOW, ELLEN M. WALLACE, Board of Public Welfare
