Annual Report of the Selectmen.

TO THE CITIZENS OF THE TOWN OF MILFORD :

We herewith submit our report for the fiscal year ending December 31, 1920, with an itemized account of the expenses of the various departments under our supervision.

HIGHWAYS.

The report of the highway surveyor who has exclusive control of the ordinary repairs of highways, town ways, streets and bridges will be found under a separate heading.

We recommend that a reasonable appropriation be made for highways in order that they may be kept in proper con- dition.

We recommend that the sum of $3,000.00 be raised and appropriated for repairs to South Main street, from Depot street to the Milford and Hopedale town line.

This street is in a deplorable condition and needs imme- diate attention.

We recommend that an appropriation be made for repairs to Cedar street, to be expended under the supervision of the Highway Commission, in connection with appropriations to be made by the State and County.

Medway street is badly in need of repairs and we recom- mend that efforts be made to have the Massachusetts Highway Commission allot a sum of money for said street.

STREET LIGHTING.

During the past year street lights were placed on Asylum street to the town farm in accordance with a vote of the town and additional lights were placed in other parts of the town where necessity required.

18

"The number of lights now maintained is as follows :

689 40-candlepower at $18.00 per year

71 60-candlepower at . $19.75 per year

87 100-candlepower at $24.00 per year

MOTH SUPPRESSION.

Notice has been received from the State Forester, that the town may be required by law to expend in suppressing gypsy and brown-tail moths the sum of $4,823.13, if condi- tions in this town require it.

We recommend that a liberal appropriation be made to Curry on this work to the satisfaction of the State Forester,

CENTRAL STREET DRAIN.

During recent years considerable damage has been done to properties at the corner of Depot and Central streets caused by the back flooding of the Central street drain.

Your selectmen engaged Mr. F. A Barbour, civil engi- meer, to investigate the conditions and he has submitted an ex-' tensive report, in which he says that the greatest relief from present conditions can be obtained by the construction of an additional drain and this should be undertaken as soon as the town finances permit.

The estimated cost of this drain is $8,500.00.

We are of the opinion that some relief should be given to the property owners in that locality, to cover the town's legal ·obligation in the matter.

The following is an itemized report of the receipts and «expenses of the various departments :
