The Public Library.

REPORT OF TRUSTEES.

During the past year there has been a growing interest in reading, if we can judge anything by the number of books taken from the Library and the constantly increasing num- ber of persons availing themselves of its privileges.

A Social Library was organized in Middleton Oct. 26, 1772. The forty-three volumes which now remain of that collection have been presented to Flint Public Library.

Another Library organization was formed in this place in 1838, of which seventy-one volumes are now presented to us.

Hon. Charles L. Flint has given fourteen bound volumes, besides seventy-eight magazines and pamphlets.

As no Supplement has been printed, these books are not yet ready for circulation.

14

We would here take the opportunity to suggest to our friends that donations of books will be acceptable. We would also solicit selections of books to aid the Trustees in purchasing.

William A. Phelps, Joseph A. Batchelder, Ansel P. Tyler, Samuel A. Fletcher, James Flint, Gilman A. Kimball.
