Flint Public Library.
The Trustees of Flint Public Library herewith present their Seventh Annual Report.
We are more than ever convinced of the great good result- ing to the inhabitants of this place by the use of the Free Library. Its usefulness as an educational aid is manifest, as well as the enjoyment afforded those who avail themselves of its privileges, and although there seems to be a decrease in the number of books taken out of the Library, during the last two years, we think it may be accounted for, in a measure, by the gradual change in the character of the reading matter called for.
A volume of history or travels cannot be read as rapidly as a book of fiction, and a change from the latter to the former would naturally lesson the number of books taken out.
An addition was made to the number of books in the Library in March-a gift from our generous friend Hon. Charles L. Flint, and we have the pleasure of announcing a similar donation this year. and the books will be in cir- culation as soon as the necessary writing and printing can be accomplished.
We have occasion to notice the imperative need of addi- tional accomodations for the increasing numbers of books, and trust that steps will be taken in the near future to that end.
Joseph A. Batchelder, Samuel A. Fletcher, William A. Phelps, James Flint, Gilman A. Kimball, Ansel P. Tyler.
