FLINT PUBLIC LIBRARY.
SEVENTEENTH ANNUAL REPORT.
We are glad to report a satisfactory use of the library dur- ing the past year, and while the number of books taken from the library is less than in the previous year, it naturally follows our decrease in population.
Quite a number of families have removed from town who were taking books from our library and one of these families averaged the taking of about three hundred books per year.
We are pleased to note that some of our young people are confining their reading to works of history and travel, thus stor- ing their minds with useful information.
We cannot refrain from taking this opportunity to congratu- late the people of this community that the advantages of a free library are placed within their reach, by the foresight and kind- ness of one, who no doubt often longed for just such advantages in his early days, but who improved every opportunity and by diligent application attained a position of honor and usefulness.
We have received from the estate of Rev. Henry J. Rich- ardson one hundred and fifteen volumes including an Official Record of Union and Confederate Armies of the War of the Rebellion contained in ninety volumes besides thirty-two maps which will be valuable for reference.
Some of the new books have been bulletined for some time, and we had confidently expected that the printed supplement would have been in circulation before this time, but we met with an unexpected delay at the printers.
