C
REPORT OF THE SELECTMEN.
The Selectmen of Weymouth for the year ending March 11th, 1861, submit the following report :-
During the year, the new road from Columbia to Randolph Street has been finished, also the widening of Pleasant Street, from Lovell's Corner, to the Sixth District School-house, and the new street from Front to West Street has been worked by Jason Holbrook, to the satisfaction of the selectmen.
The continuation of Neck Street, and the new street from Washington to the new street near the shop of Darius Smith, known as Stetson Street, have been worked in a satisfactory manner by George W. Pratt, the overseer of the Almshouse.
The widening of Front Street, near the house of Doctor Fifield, has been worked by John R. H. Williams.
The above named streets and widenings were laid out by the selectmen, and accepted by the town previous to the present year.
The bridge near the house of Bela French, at East Weymouth, has been widened, under the direction of Lovell Bicknell, but during a freshet the past winter, a part of the same was carried away, and it will be necessary to repair the same when the stream becomes sufficiently low.
The working of the new road from Pleasant Street, near the house of Ezra Reed, to Oak Street, near the house of Allen Vining, laid out by the county commissioners, has been let out to Jason Holbrook, who has nearly completed the same. The boundary lines between Weymouth, and the several towns of Hingham, Randolph, and Braintree, have been run, and the bounds and marks found to be correct.
The Liquor Agency has been continued under the direction of Amos . S. White, who has conducted the same in a satisfactory manner, with a small profit to the town.
The guide posts heretofore erected by the town, and believed to be all standing and in fair condition, except the one at the corner of Broad and Commercial Streets, near the store of late occupied by Henry Loud, and measures have been taken to have this replaced. We recommend that
4
a guide post be erected at the corner of Randolph Street, and the new street leading by Moses Orcutt's. We also recommend that names be given to all new streets not heretofore named, and that hereafter the selectmen report a name for every new street at the time the laying out is reported to the town.
