ABSTRACTS OF RECORDS FOR THE YEAR 1948 ANNUAL TOWN MEETING, MARCH 1, 1948

The meeting was opened by Prayer, the Rev. William R. Keefe presided.

A motion was made and carried that the Town Meet- ing of Abington urge its Town Officials and Transportation Committee members to exert every influence to maintain rail service on the lines of the Old Colony Railroad division of the New Haven Railroad, even to the extent of State operation of the rail service.


As a testimonial to the many years of faithful and efficient services of Frank H. Lynch and Ira E. Wright, the Inhabitants of the Town, in Town Meeting assembled, arose and stood in silence for one minute.


A rising vote of thanks was given to the retiring Chairman of the Board of Selectmen, Howard W. Belcher.


The reports of the various Town Officers and commit- tees appointed by the Town were taken up and it was

Voted, To authorize the Treasurer with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow money from time to time in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1948, and to issue a note or notes therefor, pay- able within one year, and to renew such note or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year, in accord- ance with Sec. 17, Chapter 44, General Laws. This was a unanimous vote.
