At the annual meeting in March the Town chose Mr. Robert Bennett, William F. Caswell, and your Selectmen a committee to examine the Treasurer's books, and make a balance of the different accounts, which had not been done since a former treasurer held the office ; hence they found it necessary to carry several hundred dollars from the inciden - tal expense account to some of the other accounts to enable them to start properly with the appropriation the ensuing year. Your committee have attended to the duty and trust it will be satisfactory to the town.

GEORGE A. BRIGGS, Selectmen D. W. DEANE, of ROBERT E. LEAVITT, ) Fairhaven.

The undersigned have examined the foregoing accounts, and believe them to be correct.

The changes among teachers have been from various causes ; several have been called to other towns by the offer of higher wages. We have tried faithfully to fill these places to the best of our ability ; and do not feel that any serious injury has come to the schools on account of them. While we do not claim per- fection for our schools, and hope that no school officer or teacher may look upon them as having reached that state where something higher and better is not possible ; yet we are happy to say that we can see much improvement over last year. With a desire for better results your Commit- tee have examined many methods and principles of school culture and discipline. With no desire to "make a sensa- tion" by the introduction of new methods, they have felt it their duty in this respect to "prove all things and hold fast to that which is good"; with a view to more practical results. In this direction we feel we have been more than paid for our efforts. Teachers have kindly received and
