TERCENTENARY
1630-1930
To the Inhabitants of Dighton :-
By an Act of the Legislature, a celebration of the 300th Anniversary of the founding of the Massa- chusetts Bay Colony was authorized.
His Excellency the Governor and the official com- mittee have requested that the Towns in some way, join in celebrating the event and suggest that an "Old Home Week" be held.
We are favored with some colonial and historical events worthy of consideration. Winslow and other Pilgrim fathers traveled the wooded Indian trails, the sturdy council oak of Indian Pow-Wow fame, Dighton Rock resting on the borders of Taunton River, a me- mento of a lost race, whose inscription remains un- solved.
We have some houses of Colonial time. The Cap- tain Cloustin of privateer fame where General Lafay- ette was entertained; Major Baylies house, an Aide to General Washington, and the house in which Wil- liam Ellery lived during the Revolution, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
The Indian trails have become concrete, electric lighted highways. Water, Steam, Electricity and the

Wireless do our bidding. A large Agricultural School and farm, a prosperous institution in Southern New England. In the north village is the extensive and prosperous finishing plant; in the south village, the. large successful Anchor Color and Gum Works.
An "Old Home Week" would be profitable to us and home comers.
HIGHWAYS
The much needed improvement of Main Street has been accomplished at an outlay in 1928 of $27,- 745.98 and in 1929 of $33,601.96. At the same time the defect in the drainage at the Four Corners on Elm Street has been remedied. The Department of Public Works joined with us in this work. The northern end of Forest Street has been improved from the Taunton line southerly at a cost of $10,366.62, all built within the appropriation.
It is proposed to macadam a mile and one tenth of Wellington Street, beginning at the east end of the present macadam and running easterly to a point be- yond the Fish School House. We have reasons to expect the Department of Public Works will aid.
Tax payers and some six families in the Carpenter neighborhood in the south part of the town have asked for aid in repairing nearly half a mile of the way from their houses to the Swansea line. This request meets our approval. A majority of the outlaying streets, during the year, have been treated with a liberal coat of gravel. Those neglected for want of funds should receive attention the coming year. Narrow places in the streets need widening, the bushes should be cut and the sidewalks repaired.

SCHOOL PROPERTY
A room has been added to the South Grammar School House at a cost of $6,463.26.
Because of an inadequate supply of pure water and quicksand trouble, the Town, at a special meet- ing, appropriated money to bore an Artesian Well, reaching a depth of five hundred and ten feet, most of the boring in rock. A very large supply of pure soft water was obtained.
Respectfully submitted,
CHARLES S. CHASE, GEORGE B. GLIDDEN, LYMAN E. BRIGGS, Selectmen of Dighton.

REPORT OF BOARD OF PUBLIC WELFARE
-
To the Inhabitants of Dighton :-
The demands for public relief remain about the same as last year.
The Town appropriated for charity, $8,500.00. The expenditure is $8,161.73.
There are outstanding charity claims remaining unpaid enough to absorb the unexpended balance. The Town financial year runs from January first to De- cember thirty-first inclusive. The State year begins April first and ends March thirty-first. That accounts for the difference in the Town account and the yearly returns made to the State Board of Public Welfare.
The Public Statutes prohibit publishing in the Town Report the names of persons aided. For details of expenditure and receipts, we refer you to the re- ports of the Treasurer and Auditor.
Respectfully submitted,
CHARLES S. CHASE, GEORGE B. GLIDDEN, LYMAN E. BRIGGS,
Board of Public Welfare.
Dighton, December 31, 1929.

ANNUAL REPORT
REPORT OF BOARD OF HEALTH
To the Inhabitants of Dighton :-
Most of the contagious diseases have been of mild form, only a few Scarlet Fever, one Diphtheria, and one Dog-bite.
Very profitable clinics have been held and pre- ventive health work has received much consideration.
The faithful, laborious work of the Community and School Nurses is recognized and appreciated by both our people and officials.
The expenditure by the Board is $2,638,45 and the Town appropriation was $2,500.00.
At present we have two patients at the Bristol County Tuberculosis Hospital. The cost per week is $9.10 for each inmate.
There is prospect of an increase of cases that will need to receive treatment and we ask for a larger appropriation.
We would again remind physicians and heads of families that they are required by law to report to the Board of Health all contagious cases coming under their care or observation.
Respectfully submitted,
CHARLES S. CHASE, GEORGE B. GLIDDEN, LYMAN E. BRIGGS, Board of Health.

NURSE'S REPORT
-
(Sept. 1, 1929 to Jan. 1, 1930)
Board of Selectmen,
Dighton, Mass.
Gentlemen :
The steadily increasing calls for the Town Nurses' Service now shows that the town people are rapidly availing themselves of the opportunity to receive health instructions and general nursing care which they may obtain from this source.
Since September, there have been no contagious diseases reported to me.
The many calls in connection with the school work broadens the scope of the Town Nurses' work into the homes. In these homes there are oftentimes, many chances for suggestions of improvement in home con- ditions, diets, etc., which, when tactfully made are usually met with co-operation and approval.
At this time, I wish to thank the Mt. Hope Finish- ing Company, kind individuals and town officials, who have made possible extensive Social Welfare Work by willingly coming to the aid of our unfortunate in- dividuals and families.
The amounts collected for calls of various natures together with those reimbursed by the John Hancock and The Metropolitan Life Insurance Service nets a total of $35.25.
The followng is a list of the calls made :
