It will be seen that our available assets have increased over our liabilities since last year nearly $1900, which may be accounted for by the award of County Commis- sioners on account of road and revenue from Bank tax, and by its being a very favorable year in respect to town expenses.

The Selectmen present for consideration a schedule of such sums of money as may be found necessary to meet the demands of another year, also to show the burden of taxation.

For highways, and bridges. $1,100 00

For town charges not otherwise provided for, 1,000 00

For schools, 1,200 00

State tax estimated, 1,000 00

County tax, 750 00

Chapter 298 of the laws of 1871 repeals the law authorizing the assessment and collection of the highway labor tax and requires the same to be a money tax assessed and collected as other taxes. We think eleven hundred dollars for roads and bridges will be ample if placed in judicious hands.

If the law taxing Bank and Corporate Stock remains the same, one thousand dollars will pay all town charges not otherwise provided for. In absence of any specific sum being recommended by the Committee for the sup- port of schools we use the figures of last year.

The State and County taxes are estimated, but it is hoped that they may be found not far out of the way, With these estimates there will be quite a liberal decrease in the rates of taxation from last year.
