It will be observed by an examination of the list of appropria- tions that the appropriation for the suppression of crime is not in- cluded in said list for the purposes of assessment. Having con- sulted legal counsel in the matter, we found our assessment would have been illegal had we included the same in the amount assessed. However, there is a divinity that shapes our ends, as but a small sum has been expended the past year for that purpose.
JOHN BENT, LUCIUS ATWOOD, EUGENE E. SHAW, Assessors of Carver.

REPORT OF THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
At the close of another year we are reminded of our duty to our fellow citizens to report to you our labors in connection with our public schools.
Our school officers have remained the same as last year, but the work of supervision has been performed by the chairman and secretary, owing to the absence of Mrs. R. W. Benson, who re- signed her position as teacher at East Carver shortly before the commencement of the fall term, and left the state for a limited time to engage in duties of a different character.
We close the year with seven schools.

No. 4. Grammar at the South.
No. I. Primary at the North.
No. 4. Primary at the South.
No. 3. Mixed at the Centre.
No. 2. Mixed at Pope's Point.
