THERON M. COLE

Theron M. Cole, son of Harrison G. and Lucy (Chase) Cole, was born in Carver Oct. 13, 1843. His ancestors were mill men and when he was born Cole's Mill was a land-mark of the town. Thus Mr. Cole fell naturally to the life of a mill man, increasing the facilities of his mill and continuing the manufacture of box boards, shipping boxes, barrels, etc., with pronounced success.

Although never aspiring to public positions, he was actively interested in public affairs and in all movements that had the well-being of the world for a purpose. He was specially interested in local history and he could talk enter- tainingly of characters and homesteads that have been hidden by the ravages of Time.

Mr. Cole was a patriot and his patriotism began at home. He loved his family, his town, and his country. He was essentially a Carver man; he loved the town and he never expressed a desire to leave it. He loved his work ; his soul was in the shops, the woods, the fields, the meadows, the . brooks, all of which he mobilized for help in his life-work.

That there is an accumulated income in the funds of Charles W. Griffith, Ellis Griffith, Thomas B. Griffith and Joseph Pratt funds that is difficult to expend under the law presents an unusual

11

condition. In the first two funds named it will be noticed that the accumulated income exceeds the principal. These incomes have reached a dangerous point and the officials of Union Cemetery should try to solve the problem before it gets beyond their control.
