B. F. SHUMWAY, GEORGE FISKE, SELECTMEN OF MEDFIELD. JOHN A. TURNER,

The undersigned has examined the foregoing accounts, and has found them to be correctly reported and properly vouched.

If a more particular specification of the items is desired, reference may be had to the original bills and receipts on file, in the hands of the Selectmen.

It will be seen that the Town is paying interest on more than a thousand dollars, and is in debt more than twelve hundred ; to which may be added sums nearly due for services rendered in the collection of taxes, as School Committee, Treasurer, &c.,-making the actual debt not far from thirteen hundred and fifty dollars.

The inventory of the property of the Town, as per Assessors' records, amounts to $571,908.

Why should we increase our annual expenses by the payment of interest, when we have abundant means to cancel the debt ? .

It will also be seen that $101.58 has been paid for discount on taxes, the effect of which is only to increase the next annual grant in the same amount, while, it is believed, no particular advantage has been gained.

CHARLES HAMANT, AUDITOR.

MEDFIELD, FEB. 28, 1857.
