REPORT

OF THE

LIBRARIAN

To the Trustees of Fobes Memorial Library:

We owe a debt of gratitude to Mrs. A. L. Gifford who installed electricity in the Library, besides making a generous gift of books. Books were also received from H. A. Wilbur, Mrs. Grace Rood, Miss Esther Briggs and Miss Etta Bullard. A box of juvenile books was received from the state. We have had the use of two loan libraries during the year.

The circulation of books during 1927 was 2,438, including sixty- one books lent to the schools. The circulation in 1926 was 3,612, making a falling off of 174.

REMARKS

The work this year has been very satisfactory. The town should continue the good work by getting more oil, and gravelling a little more than last year. All roads should be widened more and particular attention given to culverts. Under Chapter 90 the improved work on Rutland Road is progressing favorably and the town should continue this work.

Respectfully submitted, R. A. VESPER, Senior Civil Engineer, Chapter 81, Assistant.

The committee recommends the extension of the line to Mr. Arnold's, Mans and Lacounts. Mr. William Sawyer at the Saw- yer Lumber Co. wishes the line extended to his camp site at Brooks Pond, a distance of one-half mile. The cost of the line has been somewhat more than the estimate, but the income is proving to be a great deal more than our expectations.

We believe the line will not only pay for itself but in a few years will be a source of income to the town as well as a great benefit in other ways.

39

ANNUAL REPORT

We have approximately eighteen miles of line and ninety-six meters installed with the prospect of several more in the spring.

The people along the line have donated over 500 poles, the people on East Hill not only donated poles but dug the holes.

The committee wishes to extend its appreciation to the towns- people who have shown their co-operation and help in establishing the Oakham Electric Light Line.

Respectfully submitted, JOHN P. DAY, GEO. S. BUTLER, SYLVESTER R. DEAN,

Electric Light Committee.
