The expenses have exceeded the appro- priation Two Hundred and Eighty-two and 02-100 Dollars. On account of sickness of keepers there has been changes of two keepers in ten months.

In comparing the report of Vital Statistics with those of last year, it will be found that there has been a falling off in the number of births at the rate of 30 per cent., while the death rate has been one less than the average number entered upon record during the five years previous to 1886.

The whole number registered the past year is 40, being 13 less than the preced- ing year, and the lowest entered upon record in any year since 1852-that year the whole number recorded was 37.
