REMARKS.
The number of births entered upon record during the year 1887 is thirty-five, the exact number of the previous year. In the preceding table of births it will be noticed that the christian names of five children are not given, as no name had been fixed upon when the Clerk was canvassing the town during the early part of January. It is sincerely hoped that parents will see the importance of having their children named previous to Jan. 1st of each year. Failure to follow this suggestion may involve no end of trouble in the future, as the name may not get upon record unless special effort is made by the parent to have it placed thereon.
Sixty-two marriages have been registered the past year ; twenty-two in excess of 1886. In conformity to the law, which requires an entry to be made in the town where the marriage is solemnized, the names of fourteen couples, whose places of residence are not in this town, are placed upon record in the books of this office. Rev. Mr. Lothrop solemnized the marriage of 19 couples ; Rev. Mr. Cutting, 8; Rev. Mr. Snow, 7; Rev. Mr. Couden, 3; Rev. Messrs Sargent, Sears, Yates, Applebee, Dawes, Thomas, and J. H. Paine, Esq., 2 each ; Rev. Messrs Atwood, Braley, Vinton, Fuller, Ballou, Aldrich, Somes, Bickford, Tobey, John Kenrick, Esq., and Watson F. Baker, Esq., 1 each.
The whole number of deaths occurring the past year is fifty-eight, being eleven more than were reported in 1886.
