Harwich, Mass., Jan. 10, 1910.
We, the undersigned auditors of the Town of Harwich, have this day examined the original books, bills and vouch- ers of the accounts of the town officers for the past fiscal year, and, finding them substantially correct, have approved the same.
LEWIS B. PHILLIPS, LEVI SNOW,
Auditors of the Town of Harwich.
COLONEL CALEB CHASE
The Colonel Caleb Chase gift of $10,000.00 to the Town of Harwich for the support of the poor was secured of the executors for the town by your Board of Selectmen, March 29th, 1909, although under the law it was not payable until one year from the date of the approval of said executors' bond. Acting under the instructions of the town voted at the annual meeting in February last, your Board of Over- seers of the Poor took charge of said fund and loaned it to the town, taking the demand notes of the town therefor at an interest of 4 per cent. per annum. The notes are in the vault at the town office, where they are awaiting the final disposition of the matter.
Too much cannot be said in praise of the late Colonel Caleb Chase for his kind remembrances to his native town, and in this instance let us hope that the object of his avowal will always be preserved.
Respectfully submitted, JOHN H. DRUM, CLENRIC H. CAHOON, CARROLL F. DOANE,
Selectmen and Overseers of the Poor of Harwich.
