Your Committee, upon consultation with the Superintendent of Schools in Northampton, found that some of the scholars, formerly counted as belonging to Westhampton, were really from Northampton and Easthampton, and therefore a reduction was made in their first bill, and this year there will be due them less than $100, as our share of the expense of the school. This ex- pense might be still farther reduced if those who live at about an equal distance from this school and other schools in Town, should attend our schools.

This year we have not received as much from the State as in former years, and only one-half the Dog Fund, but have, not- withstanding, given the schools an average of thirty-one weeks each.

Our teachers, as in former years, have been procured in town as far as your Committee have deemed it advisable, and for the bes interest of the schools ; and in no instance have we been disappointed in our expectations by so doing. And where, as in two of the schools, the same teacher has remained through the year, the scholars have made a marked improvement in nearly all the branches taught.

In the North East School, your Committee have, in accordance with the wishes of those most interested, secured a teacher, qualified to teach the higher branches ; and by shortening the term of school session have been able to pay a correspondin price to the teacher, and believe that the money has been expended.

You will see, by our expense items, that some things h been paid from the School money which have been former paid for by the Town, and we think that all permanent repairs should be made by the Town appropriation ; but as there has been a deficiency in the Town Treasury, and the Town bills have been somewhat larger, your Selectmen thought it best to pay for all repairs from the School fund.

The difference in the account of the Treasurer from the one given by us, is caused by orders remaining unpaid from last year.

The prize for the best reader and speller in the Center School was awarded to Miss Mira Judd.
