There has been no one in this school who has not been tardy, and in some cases pupils have had as high as ten or twelve tardy marks, which would indicate that the parents were not much interested in having their children learn to be prompt.

The attendance in this school has not been as good as usual, and we find it to be the case where we have been obliged to change our teachers every term.

There has been but little damage to this house, and re- pairs have been less than for several years.

This school-house has been repaired and painted inside and outside, as we recommended last year, and is now in very good condition.

The attendance has been quite good, especially of those who have a permanent residence in the village, but several families have moved out during the year.

This large balance is not available for another year as the bill for supplies from Easthampton, the Superintendent's salary and an amount from Northampton, not charged until after settlement, was not put in this year, so there should be about $400 to come out of this sum.

Aside from the balance on hand, a large part of which will be used before the close of the year, as there are fifteen weeks more, we have expended $2,895.53 and have had $2,821.66, making $127.09 more than we had to use.

REPORT

OF THE

Superintendent of Schools

To the School Committee :-

I respectfully submit the annual report of the Superin- tendent of Schools for the past school year.

At the opening of the school in September there were several changes in the list of teachers. The new teachers are: Miss Emma M. Wood at Loudville, Miss Bertha B. Camp at the North-east school, and Miss Ruby Barton at the North-west school. Miss Barton resigned at the end of the fall term, and Miss Ethel Corliss was engaged to take the position.

The work of the schools has been carried on along the same general lines as in the past. We try to make a con- stant improvement in the standard of the schools, and to put especial emphasis upon the studies that seem to be of the most importance to the pupils.
