I have examined the accounts of the treasurer and find them correct, showing disbursements to the amount of eighty-six thousand, twenty-three dollars and twenty- three cents, ($86,023.23), for which vouchers are on file, and a balance on hand of forty-four thousand, five hun- dred forty-five dollars and twelve cents ($44,545.12). Due from Ralph S. Bridgman, Tax Collector, 1950 real estate tax one hundred forty dollars and seventy-one cents ($140.71). 1951 real estate tax two hundred nine- ty-one dollars and twenty-four cents ($291.24), personal property forty-eight dollars and ninety-five cents ($48.95). 1952 real estate four thousand three dollars and eighty-two cents ($4,003.82), personal property one thousand two hundred ten dollars and sixty-nine cents ($1,210.69), excise five hundred twenty-four dollars and fifty-three cents ($524.53), and polls two dollars ($2.00)

Miss Mabel Perkins has had charge of the Adventures in Reading for the Missionary Union. For their year there have been 19 qualified readers and 272 books were read.
140 books were given to the State Hospital in July.

Five Story Hours were held at the library during the summer with a total of 121 children attending.

In July 1952 representatives of the Greenfield Region- al Library Service, along with representatives of the Marshall Field Grant with headquarters at Conway, met in the Westhampton Memorial Library and spoke on the proposed new plan to increase the Rural Library Serv- ice in the Greenfield Area. This would include West- hampton and other towns previously served by the Mar- shall Field Grant which was financed for two years only, terminating October 1952.
The new service would include a larger circulation of books, continued bookmobile service to schools, film strips, and records for loan, cataloging of all books and professional library help to local libraries upon request.
The trustees of Libraries in Franklin and Hampshire Counties met in the Greenfield Public Library October 16, 1952 to discuss the proposed new plan to increase rural library service. The Franklin-Hampshire Rural Libraries Association was formed to work for an en- larged Regional Library Center with headquarters in Greenfield. Mr. Edward A. Milne of Shelburne Falls was elected Chairman. The Association has had four meetings since its formation in October, at which time letters of endorsement of the plan have been read. These were from many educational organizations in the State and other interested people. There have also been speakers who have been helpful in pointing out ways to
