REPORT OF THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN
To the People of Westhampton:
Your Board is very happy to submit this report to you.
We feel that considerable progress was made on Chapter 81 work, and we also think that the new bridge at Loud's Mill and the improvement of the Southampton Road speaks for itself. A reasonable tax rate was maintained while this work was being done.
Investigations were made on the possibility of alleviating the bad curve at Pine Island Lake dam, but upon the advice of the Department of Public Works' Engineers, this has been dropped for the present time. It is not advisable to have two Chapter 90 projects in progress at one time.
As you know winter work, especially during the six-week period from the middle of January to the first of March, was very hard last year.
We are deeply grateful for the fine assistance rendered by the Board of Public Works of the Town of Easthampton for the use of their snow blower and their excellent crew.
It is with deep regret that the Board learned, at the annual Caucus, that we are losing our veteran member, William M. Fiske. Mr. Fiske has served the Town of West- hampton, as a Selectman for the past twenty-four years. He is certainly deserving of a rest from a job well done. The remaining members hope that they too may be able to serve the Town as well as he has.
