REPORT OF THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN

To the Citizens of Westhampton:

Your Board is very happy to submit this report to you for your consideration.

We wish to express our appreciation for the cooperation of all officers and committees for their work in the preparation of this Annual Report.

Chapter 81. Road Work.

Much work was done under this Chapter on the Southamp- ton Road. We feel that there has been a great improvement, but there is still much more which needs to be done, but with the limited amount under this Chapter it is impossible to do it all at once.

At the Annual Meeting, attended by the Selectmen, Highway Superintendent, and State Engineer, for the allocation of Chapter 81 funds on the various roads of the town, it was pointed out, by the State Engineer, that with State allotment of Chapter 81 funds remaining the same, and cost of labor and material increas- ing each year, many towns have appropriated a larger sum for their Chapter 81 work. We have received requests for Road Signs, Street Lights, and Repairs to various roads by taxpayers of the town and we feel this should be given consideration.

Chapter 90. Construction.

The same old story under this Chapter. We are still working on the western end of Route 66 and while there is a vast im- provement, we feel that a few more years work is needed to complete this project; and upon the advice of the Department of Public Works, District #2, Highway Office we cannot operate but one Chapter 90 project at a time. The revenue of the town cannot stand more than this.

13

The Finance Committee met with the Selectmen and other boards to consider budget and articles for the Town Warrant. We believe that all decisions made were for the best interest of the Town and in the near future we will find that the Finance Board is a great asset to our Town.

It is the opinion of the Selectmen that the town might give some thought to the possibility of improving the Town By-Laws and Building Code and might also give some thought to the need of zoning laws.

The Selectmen meet each week on Monday evening at 7 o'clock in the Selectmen's rooms. These are open metings and anyone should feel free to come if he or she has any problem or any suggestion which may be for the best interest of the Town.
