INTRODUCTION
The births, marriages and deaths occurring in Topsfield be- fore the year 1850 were published by the Topsfield Historical Society in 1903, and beginning with the year 1900 the vital records for that year and all succeeding years have been in- cluded in the volumes of Historical Collections published annu- ally by the Society. The present volume fills the intervening space. It will be noticed that the entries contain more detailed information than is to be found in the earlier records. Noth- ing of importance was omitted at the time Volume I was pub- lished, but during the period covered by the present volume the blank books of record supplied by the Commonwealth to the town clerk, provided for the inclusion of additional infor- mation :- the maiden names of mothers, the place of birth of the parents, occupations, diseases, etc., etc. Intentions of mar- riage are not here included, nor has it been deemed necessary to canvas for possible additional information on grave stone inscriptions or private records. Parentheses are used only when they occur in the original record, and usually enclose the maiden name of a wife. The spelling of names follows that found in the original record.
