REGULATIONS CONCERNING FIRE ALARMS.

First alarm to be given on bells and whistle, by strik- ing four rounds.

Second alarm to be given by three blows struck twice. 1 One stroke at 12 M. every day.

1-1 Two strokes slow for fire out, and all apparatus under way will return to quarters.

On first alarm from boxes 32-34-35-36-37-38-39-41-43, Hose 3 will take position in Hose 1's house.

On second alarm from boxes 16-17-18-21-23-25-27-29, the Chemical engine will take position in Hose 1's house.

Members of companies not responding on first alarm shall report at the houses of their respective companies, and remain their twenty minutes, unless the recall signal has been sounded. After a first alarm has been given and before the recall signal is sounded, should an alarm be given from another box, all unemployed first and second alarm companies will respond.

22 Signal for No School, 4 rounds.

GEO. W. COOPER, Supt.

INFORMATION FOR YOU.

Keys to the boxes may be found at the nearest house.

Before ringing in an alarm be sure that a fire actually exists.

Do not give an alarm for a fire seen at a distance, as all needless alarms are an expense to the town, and should be avoided as much as possible.

To give an alarm, pull down the hook in the box once (without jerking) and let go. Wait a few seconds and if you hear no clicking of the wheels, pull again (10 clicking, no alarm) ; if then no movement is heard, go to the nearest box and try, after which, report immedi- ately, to the superintendent or at the station, the box out of order.

MISCELLANEOUS DEPARTMENT.

All persons giving fire alarms are requested to remain by the box, if possible, to direct the firemen to the fire. Each box contains a small bell which if heard before you pull indicates that the alarm has been previously given.

After the first alarm has been rung in, all other alarms or signals are given only by the engineers.

Tampering with any of the apparatus connected with the Fire Alarm Telegraph will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

SPECIAL NOTICE.

The fact that an alarm box is located near their resi- dence, and where the key is kept, should be known to all persons, both male and female ; and the simple manner of giving an alarm in case of fire should be a matter of common education. The Board of Engineers recommends to all persons who may see this notice, that they make all necessary enquiries to enable them, in case of need, either to get the key and pull an alarm in, or direct others to do so. Time saved in this way may prevent a conflagration.
