STATISTICS


1630 Settled as part of Boston, and until 1705 known as Muddy River Hamlet. In early days wood and hay taken to town of Boston by boats' and lighters across what is now Back Bay lands.


1680 Devotion House, 347 Harvard, built on Cam- bridge road


1705 By order of the General Court "the powers and privileges of a township given to the in- habitants of Muddy River, the Town to be called Brookline, etc."
