An Ordnance Entitled-An Ordinance Amending An Ordinance Entitled-(An Ordinance Entitled Traffic Ordinance).


Be it ordained by the City Council of the City of Newburyport as follows:


That Clause A. Section 7, Article 5, Chapter 31, of the Revised Ordinances of the City of Newburyport is hereby amended by striking out the lines in Section 7, Article 5, Clause A, pertaining to Merrimac Street Northwesterly side, between Broad and Tyng Streets, by inserting in place thereof the following:


Article 5, Section 7, Clause A. No parking between the hours of 6 A.M. and 6 P.M. on the southwesterly side of Merrimac Street between Broad and Tyng Streets, and thirty minute parking on the northeasterly side of Merrimac Street (in front of the Towle Manufacturing Company) between Broad and Tyng Streets.


This ordinance shall take effect upon its final passage.

ORDINANCE In City Council


June 6, 1944.


Be It Ordained by the City Council of Newburyport that Chapter Twenty A of the Revised Ordinances of the City of Newburyport entitled "Regulations of the Fire Department" be and is hereby repealed and substituting in place thereof the following:


Chapter Twenty-A Regulations of the Fire Department


Section 1. The fire department shall consist of a call chief, call deputy chief, two permanent lieutenants, one to be in charge of each platoon, and not more than twelve permanent members and as many call men as the Mayor and City Council may from time to time determine. The call men shall hold office for one year, unless sooner re- moved by the Mayor and City Council. The members of the fire department shall re- ceive such compensation as the Mayor and City Council may determine.


Section 2. No permanent fireman shall act as chief or assistant chief unless said chief or assistant chief is incapacitated by illness or injury.

An Ordinance Entitled An Ordinance To Provide For The Licensing of Lodging Houses.


Section 1. Licensing authorities may grant licenses for lodging houses under Chap- ter 140, Section 23 of the General Laws of Massachusetts which shall be for the period provided in Section 4 of Chapter 140 and a fee of Two Dollars ($2.00) for such license is hereby established by the City Council of the City of Newburyport.
