Fire Alarm Signals
2 Blows calls out department for slight fire in Precincts 2 and 4
2 Blows after an alarm signifies fire under control
5 Blows calls department for slight fire in Precincts 1, 2, 3
3 Blows with 5 seconds intervals at 7.30 A M means no morning session of any school
3 Blows at 12.30 P M with 5 sec- onds intervals between blows means no afternoon session of any school
Note-Where possible, a box alarm is preferable, as it notifies firemen of the location of fire. Persons pulling in an alarm should always wait at box until the arrival of firemen so as to direct them to its location
In giving an alarm by telephone be sure to give exact location of fire, street and number, whether serious or slight, and do not pull in a box alarm after engine house has been called, as this is sure to cause confusion
Drivers must in all cases after an alarm by telephone press box nearest to fire when there is the least possible danger
Officers will see that a roll call is held after each alarm and report same within 4 days to the chief of the fire department
