POINTS OF INTEREST.
Five and Ten Pound Islands, in Gloucester Harbor, so named from the fact that five and ten pounds respectively were 1 paid for them. On the latter are the buildings of the United States Fish Commission and light-house.
Rafe's Chasm, Magnolia, is a fissure into the solid rocks, some sixty feet deep and twelve wide at the mouth, gradually growing narrower as it runs inland.
Dog Town Commons. May be visited by way of Washington street and Gee avenue. This section of Cape Ann is a field of study for all who delight in the investigation of tradition. It contains remnants of many cellars of both houses and farm buildings, also of walls which in years long past are supposed to have divided the land of the residents one from the other. The streets and foot paths are grass grown and leave but faint proof of their past.
Governor's Hill, to the left of Washington street, from which a fine view of the city and harbor may be obtained.
Willoughby Park, in West Gloucester, containing many miles of hills and dales, reached by way of Essex avenue and Atlantic street.
Coffin's Beach, near Willoughby Park, now called Wingaer- sheek Beach, but more familiarly known as Coffin's. Extensive sand dunes may be seen on the way.
Pavilion Beach, just off Western avenue, near Main street. Mount Anne Park, formerly Thompson's Mountain, given to the city by Minot Brothers of Boston, in West Gloucester. This is the highest elevation on Cape Ann, being 255 feet above the sea level. Commanding a fine view of Massa- chusetts Bay, the White Mountains and Bunker Hill Monument on a clear day.
Annisquam Willows, planted about 45 years ago, and forming an arch over Washington street just before entering Annis- quam.
Cape Pond, a large body of fresh water from which many tons of ice are cut, and which also furnishes the town of Rock- port with its water.
Niles' Pond, Eastern Point, a State pond at East Gloucester, contains many pickerel and other fresh water fish.

POINTS OF INTEREST,
Thatcher's Twin Lights, on Thatcher's Island, the outpost of Cape Ann. They may be visited by hoisting a signal which will be found on shore at the island's nearest point to the mainland.
Eastern Point Light. May be reached by the government road. Niles' Beach and Pond are on the road.
Granite Quarries, at Pigeon Cove, may be seen on the drive around the Cape. The quarry of the Rockport Granite Company may be seen from the main road.
Annisquam Light, at the extreme end of Annisquam Point. Iron light tower.
Old Fort, at Eastern Point, just off the road to Eastern Point Light, erected 1812.
Old Fort, at Stage Fort Park, erected 1812.
Stage Fort Park, purchased by the city in 1898, on Western avenue, and commands an excellent view of the harbor and city.
Ravenwood Park. Bequeathed to the city by the late Samuel E. Sawyer, to be preserved as a wild park, on Western avenue, near Fresh Water Cove.
Norman's Woe, made famous by the pen of Longfellow in " The Wreck of the Hesperus." May be visited on the drive to Magnolia.
Good Harbor Beach, at Bass Rocks.
The Oldest House on Cape Ann. Built at Goose Cove by Thomas Riggs, who was the first schoolmaster and town clerk. Take road on the left approaching the Willows.
The Freeman House, West Gloucester, was erected previous to 1700, and was used as a tavern for years.
The Babson House, at Pigeon Cove, erected by three men who fled from Salem about 1698, with their mother, and hid in this house so that she should not be punished as a witch.
The Ellery House, Riverdale, built between 1704 and 1710 by Rev. John White. This house was used for a long time as a tavern, and contains many interesting relics of "Ye olde time."
The Babson House, Riverdale, built about 1740 by Joseph Allen. Said to still retain the slave pens used during the slavery times.
The Dennison House, Bay View, built about 1727.
" Old Mother Ann," at the extremity of Eastern Point. A perfect contour of a woman in a reclining position.
Drives Around the Cape. A fifteen-mile drive giving a view of the ocean, the granite quarries, wooded roadways and resi- dences. The drive may be made by Rockport first, or by way of Washington street. By way of Rockport is through Eastern avenue, past Beaver Dam to Great Hill, down the

hill to Rockport, down Broadway past the old mill, a ruin of Rockport's former industry of cotton weaving; thence through Dock square, along Main street, Back Beach and granite quarries ; thence through Pigeon Cove and Phillips avenue to Lanesville, through Washington street to Bay View, Annisquam and Riverdale to Gloucester proper.
Around West Gloucester. Through Western and Essex avenues to Concord street, where guide boards point the way to Essex, Wingaersheek Beach and Willoughby Park. A ride of from four to eight miles of wooded country roads.

Through Western and Essex avenues to Essex and through the woods to Manchester, thence to the city by way of Western avenue.
To East Gloucester and Eastern Point. Through Main street to Point Hill; thence through East Main street to land of Eastern Point Associates. The roadway through this property leads to Eastern Point and along the " Back Shore," giving excellent views of the ocean. On the return, drive over Mt. Pleasant avenue (from the top of which a fine view of the city proper may be obtained), to Bass Rocks, at which place the surf may be seen at its best ; thence back by East Main and Main streets to the city.
To Magnolia. Through Western avenue, past Stage Fort Park and Ravenwood Park, over Sawyer's Hill and the State Highway, past Fresh Water and Kettle Coves; thence along Magnolia avenue around Magnolia Point. Return by way of Hesperus avenue through the woods, side paths from which will give excellent views of the Flume, Rafe's Chasm and Norman's Woe.
