A PUBLIC SERVICE PUBLICATION
Few lines of Business have such a varied clientele as has the City Directory. It serves high and low, rich and poor, with equal im- partiality and with profit to all.
It answers the questions What? and Who? hich arise in daily Business and fills a posi- cion occupied by no other publication under the sun. It is often used from its issue until it falls to pieces and seldom will you find one entirely discarded while its leaves cling to- gether. A publication which is used so uni- versally and whose life is so long, must appeal to every shrewd business man as a most de- sirable advertising medium.

Common Sense About City Directory Circulation
THE TRUE VALUE of advertising circula- tion is circulation consulted.
TO BE EXACT by actual survey in twenty- four average American cities by actual count each city directory averaged three and one-half consultations for each busı- ness day.
TO BE CONSERVATIVE we will eliminate the sixty Sundays and Holidays when no tests were made.
FOR EVERY THOUSAND DIRECTO- RIES sold there will be an average of three and one-half daily consultations for each book for THREE HUNDRED and FIVE days. therefore-

PUBLISHERS
-thus assuring you the ultimate service that skill and care can produce in the way of City Directories or other reference media, and providing protection against fraudulent advertising schemes which operate under the name of Directories.
The following "Standards of Practice," adopted at the inception of the Asso- ciation of North American Directory Publishers in 1898, and strictly adhered to over the years, is your guarantee of satisfactory Directory Service.
The publisher of a Directory should dedicate his best efforts to the cause of business uplift and so- cial service, and to this end pledges himself:
1. To consider, first, the interest of the user of the book.
2. To subscribe to and work for truth, honesty and accuracy in all departments.
3. To avoid confusing duplica- tion of listings, endeavoring to classify every concern under the one heading that best describes it, and to treat additional listings as adver- tising, to be charged for at regular rates.
4. To increase public knowledge of what Directories contain; to study public needs and make Direc- tories to supply them; to revise and standardize methods and classifica- tions, so that what is wanted may be most easily found, and the Direc- tory be made to serve its fullest use
as a business and social reference book and director of buyer and seller.
5. To decline any advertisement which has a tendency to mislead or which does not conform to business integrity.
6. To solicit subscriptions and advertising solely upon the merits of the publications.
7. To avoid misrepresentation by statement or inference regarding circulation, placing the test of refer- ence publicity upon its accessibility to seekers, rather than on the num- ber of copies sold.
8. To co-operate with approved organizations and individuals en- gaged in creative advertising work.
9. To avoid unfair competition.
10. To determine what is the highest and largest function of Directories in public service, and then to strive in every legitimate way to promote that function.
$100 Reward will be paid by the Association of North American Directory Publishers for the arrest and conviction of any person or persons engaged in the publishing, collecting or canvassing for any fraudulent or fake directories.

Don't Contribute to Counterfeiters KNOW YOUR MONEY!
Don't Be Fooled by Forgers KNOW YOUR ENDORSERS!
The Government never redeems counterfeit money!
1. KNOW YOUR MONEY! Study the bills you receive so as to become familiar with the workmanship on them, especially in the por- traits.
2. COMPARE a suspected bill with a genuine of the same type and denomination. Observe these things:
PORTRAIT Counterfeit-Dull, smudgy, or unnaturally white, scratchy; oval background is dark, lines irregular and broken. Portrait merges into the background.
Genuine-Stands out distinctly from the oval back- ground. Eyes appear lifelike. Back- ground is a fine screen of regular lines.
COLORED SEAL
Counterfeit-Saw-tooth points around rim are usu- ally uneven, broken off.
Genuine-Saw-tooth points around rim are even and sharp.
SERIAL NUMBERS
Counterfeit-Poorly printed, badly spaced, uneven in appearance.
Genuine-Figures firmly and evenly printed, well spaced.
PAPER Counterfeit-Generally has no silk threads, but these may be imitated by very small red and blue ink lines.
Genuine-Printed on distinctive paper in which very small red and blue silk threads are scat- tered. The silk threads are not always noticeable on bills that are badly soiled or worn.
3. RUBBING a bill on a piece of paper will not prove it is genuine or counterfeit; ink can be rubbed from good bills as well as bad ones.
4. CONSULT an experienced money-handler or police officer to make sure, if you are still in doubt, whether a bill is genuine or coun- terfeit.
5. REMEMBER, NOT ALL STRANGERS ARE COUNTER- FEITERS, BUT ALL COUNTERFEITERS ARE LIKELY TO BE STRANGERS.
This information is reprinted from the U. S. Secret Service 32-page booklet, "KNOW YOUR MONEY", which tells how to detect counterfeit coins and bills and how to guard against losses from forged Government checks. Copies may be purchased for 10c each, or $7.50 per 100, from the Superintendent of Docu- ments, Government Printing Office, Washington, D. C.
