MANUAL of the CENTRAL CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH in MIDDLEBOROUGH, MASS.
NAME
This organization shall be called the Central Congregational Church.
CHARACTER
This Church is independent in its organization, in its government, and in the management of its affairs. It is amenable to no other ecclesi- astical body except by its own consent, and according to the regular and established principals of Congregational Church Polity.
This Church will extend to, and receive from all other Christian Churches that fellowship, advice and assistance which the law of Christ requires; and it recognizes its duty and privilege to join with sister churches of the same faith and order in the various councils, conferences, and associations which are customary among them.
Believing no other organization necessary, this Church is associ- ated with no parish, or other religious society, but of itself conducts all its affairs.

FORM OF ADMISSION
"What shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits towards me? I will take the cup of salvation and call upon the name of the Lord.
I will pay my vows unto the Lord now in the presence of all his people.
Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I con- fess also before my Father which is in heaven.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
Dearly beloved, called of God to be his children through Jesus Christ our Lord, you are here, that, in the presence of God and his people, you may enter into the fellowship and communion of his Church. You do truly repent of your sins; you heartily receive Jesus Christ as your crucified Savior and risen Lord; you consecrate yourselves unto God and your life to his service; you accept his word as your law, and his Spirit as your Comforter and Guide; and trusting in his grace to confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, you promise to do God's holy will, and accepting, according to the measure of your understand- ing of it, the system of Christian truth held by the churches of our faith and order, and by the church into whose fellowship you now enter, you promise to walk with this church in the truth and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We thus receive you into our membership. We welcome you to the fellowship that is in Christ. We promise with you to watch over each other in Christian love, and by our mutual assistance and prayers to seek to advance the cause and kingdom of our blessed Redeemer.
God grant that, loving and being loved, serving and being served, blessing and being blessed, we may be kept by the power of God through faith, unto salvation, and strengthened to bear worthily the name of him who loved us and washed us from our sins in his own blood.
"Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the ever- lasting covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do his will,
(91)
working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen."
NOTE. The Minister may use any other form of admission that commends itself to his judgment and the judgment of the Church, if it contains in substance the same truths as here expressed.
CREED
We believe in God the Father, infinite in wisdom, goodness and love; and in Jesus Christ his Son, our Lord and Savior, who for us and our salvation lived and died and rose again and liveth evermore; and in the Holy Spirit, who taketh of things of Christ and revealeth them to us, renewing, comforting, and inspiring the souls of men. We are united in striving to know the will of God as taught in the Holy Scrip- tures, and in our purpose to walk in the way of the Lord, made known or to be made known to us. We hold it to be the mission of the Church of Christ to proclaim the Gospel to all mankind, exalting the worship of the one true God, and laboring for the progress of knowledge, the pro- motion of justice, the triumph of peace, and the realization of human brotherhood. Depending, as did our fathers, upon the continued guidance of the Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth, we work and pray for the transformation of the world into the kingdom of God; and we look with faith for the triumph of righteousness and for life and glory everlasting. Amen.
