REPORT OF HEALTH COMMISSIONER

Quincy, January 1, 1921.

Necessary changes in the organization on January 1st resulted in more efficiency in the work of this department.

The severe weather during January, February and March hindered in the carrying on of our work. Owing to the continued snow it was neces- sary to add three pungs to our outfit. One garbage wagon and 3} T. dump Truck were also purchased during the year which have proved a great help.

The delays caused by cold weather in getting trucks started in the mornings proved the necessity of having a properly heated garage in which to keep our trucks. We now have such a building which houses all our trucks and cars.

More demands for Scavenger work have been executed this year than ever before.

The Sewer extensions in sections where unsanitary conditions exist have eliminated many cesspools and privy vaults but there are still a larger number than should be for a city of this population, 413 Cesspools and 319 Vaults were cleaned during the year.

The assignment of the Health Inspector to the Milk Department has proved its value by the results obtained. The first unit of a laboratory has been installed and weekly tests have been made as recorded in report covering same. I would recommend an extension of this work to making Bacteria tests and the installation of the proper apparatus for same.
